How to Use Hario V60 Size 01 Paper Filters
Proper Filter Preparation
Step 1: Fold the Seam
Locate the filter's seam (where the tab is). Fold along this seam to create the cone shape. The 01 filter is smaller and more delicate than the 02—handle gently.
Step 2: Position in Dripper
Place the folded filter in your V60 01 dripper. Press gently to seat the filter against the walls.
Step 3: Rinse Thoroughly
Pour hot water through the entire filter in a circular motion. For the smaller 01 size, you'll need less water than the 02. This accomplishes:
- Removes any residual paper taste
- Preheats your ceramic/glass dripper
- Pre-warms your mug
- "Seals" the filter against the dripper walls
Step 4: Discard Rinse Water
Empty all rinse water from your mug before adding coffee grounds.
How Much Water for Rinsing Size 01?
Minimum: 75-100ml (enough to wet entire smaller filter)
Recommended: 150-200ml (thorough rinse + proper preheating)
The 01 filter requires less rinse water than the 02 due to its smaller size. For white filters, even a quick rinse is sufficient.
