Description

The World’s Most Coveted Cup

Few coffees carry a name that means something even to people who don’t drink coffee. Jamaica Blue Mountain is one of them. For generations it has been the coffee that collectors seek out, that travelers bring home as a treasured gift, and that connoisseurs hold up as the benchmark for balance and refinement.

Its reputation comes from a rare combination: a tiny, legally protected growing region, cool misty mountains, careful hand harvesting, and one of the strictest certification systems in the coffee world. Only coffee grown in the designated Blue Mountain area of Jamaica, and approved by the island’s coffee regulator, can carry the name.

This is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain® from Wallenford, one of the most respected names in Jamaican coffee. It’s not a blend and it’s not “Blue Mountain style.” It is the real thing.

What Makes Jamaica Blue Mountain Different

The secret is balance. Many great coffees are known for one standout quality: bold fruit, deep chocolate, heavy body. Jamaica Blue Mountain is famous for doing everything at once, and doing it gently. The acidity is bright but never sharp. The sweetness is clear but never heavy. The finish is clean, with no bitterness at all.

In the cup, Wallenford’s Blue Mountain opens with a striking aroma, then settles into smooth milk chocolate lifted by citrus brightness. It’s elegant rather than loud, the kind of coffee that reveals more with every sip.

That refinement is why Jamaica Blue Mountain has stayed at the top of the coffee world for so long. Its rarity keeps it scarce. Its quality keeps it coveted.

The Land: Mist, Mountains, and Time

Jamaica’s Blue Mountains rise steeply from the island’s eastern coast to more than 7,000 feet, among the highest peaks in the Caribbean. They take their name from the blue haze that settles over the ridges, and that mist is a big part of the coffee’s story.

Cloud cover shades the coffee trees through much of the day, and cool mountain temperatures slow the ripening of each cherry. Coffee here can take far longer to mature than in warmer, sunnier regions. That extra time on the branch builds sugar and complexity, producing the sweet, balanced profile Jamaica Blue Mountain is known for.

The soil is rich and well-drained, the rainfall is plentiful, and the slopes are so steep that nearly all of the work, from planting to picking, is done by hand.

The Producer: Doing Well and Doing Good

Wallenford is one of Jamaica’s most established Blue Mountain coffee producers. It works closely with the small farmers who grow its coffee, providing support and infrastructure that helps them grow a profitable crop and provide for their families.

Its commitment goes beyond the farm. Wallenford adopts schools in Jamaica’s coffee-growing communities to support the children who live there. That philosophy of doing well and doing good aligns closely with ours. Every bag of Everyday People coffee gives back to youth education, and with Wallenford, that same spirit reaches all the way back to the mountains where the coffee is grown.

The Certification: Guaranteed Authentic

Jamaica Blue Mountain is one of the most imitated coffees in the world. Blends containing as little as 10% Blue Mountain beans are often sold with the name prominently on the label, and some coffees borrow the name without containing any at all.

Every bag of this coffee is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain®, certified by JACRA, the Jamaican regulatory authority that sets quality standards, provides certification, and governs the island’s coffee trade. When you see that certification, you know exactly what’s in the bag: authentic coffee from the designated Blue Mountain region, and nothing else.

In the Cup: How to Taste It

Jamaica Blue Mountain rewards a little attention. A few tips for getting the most from every cup:

Drink it black. Balance is what makes this coffee special, and milk or sugar will cover it up. Try your first cup without additions.

Choose pour-over. A V60 or Chemex produces the cleanest expression of the milk chocolate and citrus notes. French press is a lovely alternative if you prefer more body.

Smell before you sip. The aroma is one of Jamaica Blue Mountain’s defining qualities. Take a moment with it while the coffee blooms and again in the cup.

Let it cool slightly. As the coffee settles from hot to warm, the sweetness and citrus come into sharper focus.

Grind fresh. For a coffee this special, buying whole bean and grinding just before brewing makes a real difference.

A Note on Availability

The designated Blue Mountain growing region is small, the terrain is difficult, and annual production is limited. A large share of each harvest has traditionally been exported to Japan, leaving a small supply for the rest of the world. Authentic 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain is genuinely scarce. When it’s in stock, it’s worth getting while you can, especially as a gift.

Jamaica Blue Mountain Brewing Tips

  • Use filtered water at 195–205°F — clean water lets the delicate aromatics and clean finish come through
  • Weigh your coffee; with a coffee this special, a scale is the easiest way to get every cup right
  • Allow a 30-second bloom when brewing pour over to release trapped CO₂ for a sweeter, more even extraction
  • Grind just before brewing — Jamaica Blue Mountain's famous aroma is its most fragile quality and fades quickly once ground
  • Try your first cup black; this coffee's balance is the whole point, and it needs nothing added
  • Store whole beans in an airtight container away from heat and light; best within 2–4 weeks of roast date

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. This is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain® from Wallenford, certified by JACRA. It is not a blend. Many coffees labeled “Blue Mountain blend” contain only a small percentage of authentic beans; this bag contains nothing else.
